In June 2014, Cork Women’s FC signed an affiliation with Friends of the Rebel Army Society (FORAS) Supporters Trust, who operate Cork City FC. As part of this affiliation, Cork Women’s F.C. re-launched ahead of the 2014-15 Women’s National League campaign as Cork City Women’s FC.
The club are delighted to sign an agreement with FORAS and to finally join up the Cork senior football family with both men and women team’s competing under the same banner. The club will continue to play their home games in Bishopstown Stadium while the clubs will pool resources to better develop association football in Cork.
Speaking on the agreement, Chris O’Mahony of Cork City Women’s FC added “The opportunity to work more closely with FORAS and Cork City FC is an excellent step forward for everyone involved. Though we will continue to operate as an independent team under the FORAS banner, the support available from Cork City CEO Tim Murphy, his staff and the wider CCFC community will be invaluable as our club continues to grow and develop in the coming years.”
Commenting on the development, Pat Lyons, chairman of FORAS, said: “The move to forge closer links with Cork Women’s FC was first raised by FORAS members and received great support. Last year CWFC played their games at our training facility in Curraheen and we were impressed by the efforts of everyone involved. We see this initiative as being completely in line with the FORAS ethos and our involvement in the community will be strengthened by this association. FORAS is delighted that CWFC is now an affiliate of the Trust.”
